“Of the blessings set before you make your choice, and be content.” is a Samuel Johnson quote apparently.

I spent all day agonizing over job interview that I nailed, and then I made it home just in time for Supernatural. Success!
So what the actual fuck was the point of the last 10 episodes?
Setting up new characters for the brothers to have separate lives and begin to grow as people only for said people to then be snatched away?
And for Castiel to grow and evolve, only to be restored…
Actually, hammerduke and I were just discussing how this episode fought the old pattern. The brothers’ reunion was not a restoration of things “as they should be.” Instead, while the boys are amiable enough with each other, the point is to show just how broken they are. They’re back together, but they feel so alone. Neither of them really finds the companionship of his brother enough anymore. They’re giving up friendship and love for the sake of what they’ve always known. The relationships with Amelia and Benny are not entirely healthy or ideal, but the boys’ steadfast belief that they can only have family or love/friendship, rather than both, has become more painful than ever. They don’t even necessarily buy into what they’re doing, but they think they have to because it’s what they’ve always done. Also, the pain and trouble they’re causing Amelia and Benny is substantial, and I think helps show that their philosophy that it’s all or nothing in terms of relationships/hunting is highly problematic for everyone involved.
This manip took 9 hours. I think it really reaches into the souls of the characters.
This is my favorite thing I did in 2012.
So the characters on Supernatural like to have sex. Like, a lot. And that’s awesome, good for them! They’re all consenting adults (OK, with the notable exception of people who are being possessed by demons or something like that, but thankfully they addressed those issues with Ruby in S4). But that’s not what I want to talk about here. Sure, there’s lots to be said about Dean’s belt being so notched it’s probably falling apart or Sam’s dick of death or other, much more serious issues revolving around sex and sexuality in Supernatural, but one I’ve noticed that’s sort of slipped through the cracks is how the show treats virginity. Of course, what the show has to say about not having had sex at all also says a lot about the show’s views towards having had lots of sex. In Supernatural, virginity is framed as something that sets people apart. It’s seen as something rare, difficult to maintain, and is set up as simultaneously an object of derision and admiration (unsurprisingly, this varies depending on the sex of the character, because where would we be without our dual standards, eh?).
So venture onwards to a look at virginity in Supernatural and what it means!
